On an unusually warm November afternoon, I patiently wait inside a trailer while Sagine Sémajuste finishes filming her scene, on a closed set for her upcoming project. After about twenty five minutes, the door opens and in she comes.
SAGINE INSTANTLY CAPTURES YOUR ATTENTION WITH HER CAPTIVATING SMILE...
...and an undeniable presence that draws you in within seconds. We exchange pleasantries with the familiarity of two old friends. Knowing we don’t have much time, I thank her for meeting with me and dive right in. Sémajuste has made a career out of utilizing all of her talents and with that, manages to always keep us guessing. “I never liked having a routine. I get restless. Trying and learning new things keeps me curious. In my opinion, diversifying your portfolio stretches your reach within the industry, sharpens your skill sets, positions you for multiple opportunities throughout the industry and showcases your unique range as an artist. I truly believe everyone is gifted in more than one area. We just don’t always take the time to discover and develop them.”

Sémajuste smiles and takes a sip of water. “I’m really trying to increase my water intake these days.” I point to my gallon water bottle behind her on the table. We both laugh. I tell her she seems fearless. Like nothing shakes her. She laughs again. “I wish,” Sémajuste says. “I’ll say this. I was fearless when I didn’t know what I wanted out of life...
THE SECOND I KNEW, FEAR BECAME MY BEST FRIEND. I WAS TERRIFIED OF FAILING.
I suffered from imposter syndrome. It took me years to shift my mindset. I’m still doing the work but I thank God that I now recognize the signs sooner and don’t allow myself to get lost in a sea of doubt. Everything I need to succeed already lives within me. I just had to learn to step into myself and align with my purpose. I used to be scared to fall but now I’ve found my wings. I no longer see it as failing. I learn my lessons and elevate.” As she finishes her sentence her alarm goes off. We say our goodbyes, she puts on a fabulous vibrant yellow vintage high collared coat and heads for the door. I ask her if she’s always been into fashion. With one hand on the door and the other one in the air with only her index finger extended. She turns to me, smiles and says “Not fashion, style. Fashion is what they tell you to wear, style is how you choose to wear it!”

Acting is seeking your internal truth to better identify the truth in the characters you embody. It’s listening, trusting, being still and letting go. It’s not knowing and constantly chasing, hoping to find it. It’s being vulnerable and open without judgement. It’s realizing that even with over 25 credits to my name, I’m still searching for the answers. And that’s the best part.
I can’t wait to share my two most recent projects with all of you. A series lead role in a new, coming-of-age, drama series and an erotic thriller both set to be released in 2024.

Lincoln, Canadian Tire, Nissan, VanCity and OPG are just some of the renowned brands I've had the pleasure of collaborate with, on numerous occasions, on both commercial spots and campaigns. I have also lent my voice to Sunny, the sun, from TVO Kids show Sunny’s Quest. A tv series which features first-person stories told by Black children across Canada. MOCAP and video games have been added to my portfolio thanks to an upcoming open world action-adventure game soon to be released this Dec. 2023 More details to come!

Staying open to diversifying my portfolio and tapping into different avenues within my artistic umbrella, has gifted me with so many beautiful opportunities outside of being an actor and a dancer. I've booked two National Print campaigns, as a print model, for both TD Bank and Bud Light Lime (my first billboard). As well as, an advertising campaign for Paradigm ear-buds. I was also selected to be the Face of Haiti during the PanAm Games in Toronto and was featured in a double page spread for Modalina Magazine, in their Spring/Summer issue (Vol. 3-No.1) as the Actor in the Defining Style section.
I've also had the pleasure of working with exceptionally talented photographers with whom I've gotten to create some timeless images with and it's become a great passion of mine.
